VERDE GROUP SAYS IT CAN’T AFFORD AFFORDABLE HOUSING
Verde Group threatens to pull out of Santa Teresa if their conditions are not met
"Santa Teresa is on the way to becoming an economic debacle that no one would consider pursuing.”
—Ron Blankenship, Verde Realty co-chairman
HERE’S A HEATED email exchange between the Verde Group and
Doña Ana County commissioner Bill McCamley regarding“affordable housing” in the proposed Santa Teresa
development. The Verde Group chairman threatens to pull out of the deal if the county
insists on making 15 percent of their homes "affordable" and it if
refuses to grant them control over the Tax
Increment Development District to insure that they get
reimbursed for their proposed
infrastructural investments. The Verde Group executive promises they "will depart the area and
the opportunity that it poses will be lost” if their demands are not met.
