THE SEGUNDO BARRIO may be economically poor, but
it is
extremely wealthy when it comes to culture and history. The Sacred
Heart Church Street Festival and Mural Dedication on February 10, 2007
brought
barrio residents and other El Pasoans to celebrate this richness that
is currently under threat by the Paso Del Norte Group's plans to build
a big-box retail store in El Paso's oldest neighborhood. Music, poetry,
lucha libre, dance and a low-rider car show. All
with the underlying message: El Segundo Barrio is Not for Sale!
